I pour off about half my sourdough every night and feed it with 1/2 cup flour mixed in 1/2 cup water. If I am planning on baking the next day, I don't pour off so I am sure to have plenty. If you think your sourdough has died, don't pour it out. Just keep pouring off and feeding it. It will come around. Remember to use pure water to feed your sourdough, because chemicals in tap water can kill it.

Hiya Garden Girl: Thanks for stopping by my blog! Now, if I bake with it every other day, can I just leave the starter on the counter? Do I have to refrigerate it???
Thanks,
Cath
If you're baking every other day, there is no need to refrigerate. Just pour off and feed your sourdough on the in between day. I keep my sourdough on top of a bookshelf in our livingroom. If you don't want to bake with your sourdough for a while it is fine to refrigerate. A refrigerated sourdough only needs to be fed once a week, and then back to every day when you get it out. Now, I have never refrigerated mine; that is just what I have read. ~Emily
You're the best! Thanks a lot!
Cath
I've started my starter. Thanks to your sister and another lady I know reminding me to try it out for myself! I haven't made bread successfully with it yet but I think I will in the next few days. Finally my starter is acting normal. It would never rise before and so I changed from filtered water to tap and now it rises. Any way I can't wait to make bread with it.
